Question

So really quick; does anyone have any really good ideas/books/articles/ways to potty train a boy? This amatuere (me) is thinking she's going to potty train Jax before the baby comes in May...I've got to; among other reasons, buying diapers for 2 children is a little expensive. And by "a little" I mean its enough to brake the bank.:) So, please help if you can. It's got to be possible. If it makes a difference, he is 20 months old.
Side note: Jax got his 1st haircut on Saturday; hopefully I'll post pictures someday...it looks like 30x's better.:)

  2. You should purchase, read, and use this book. Especially since he is young.

I like how it prepares you to potty train. You need to get it now so you can start working on some things with Jax. Like for example, he needs to be able to pull his own pants up and down.

It pretty much works. I am a potty training expert. :) Not really but I know what doesn't work. Pull ups. Don't ever use them. When you decide to potty train, don't go back. Don't show any weakness.

  3. I agree with Stacy. Potty training is not for the faint of heart. The Potty training in a day works really well. My kids really hate the practicing part and that is what you have to be most consistent on. That is what makes it work. Also don't plan on going out of the house for a couple of days just because you don't want to be that frustrated with your child in public.:)
Every time I think about potty training, it makes me super scared, so I am way interested in how it goes for you. GOOD LUCK!!! (because that is the most important part :).

  4. Ha ha, Mairee just peed on the floor, then had a poop halfway out her bum so I held her over the potty and it fell in...she clapped for herself and said bye bye poop poop when she flushed it down...I might have just made things worse...

  8. you have good people...I think they all got it right: preparation and consistency. ditto to the no pull-ups thing and the not going anywhere for a few days thing. I used the 3-day potty training method that I think is very much like the potty training in a day thing. you basically stare at your kid all day so you can catch every single accident and rush them to the toilet. and you give praise, praise, praise every time they go in the toilet, and don't show any anger or frustration because it needs to be a positive thing for them. I definitely think the kid has to be ready though, and I feel sketchy about boys potty training too young. Gavin was almost 3 and it was a piece of cake. Paige is 26 months and we are on the tail-end of a miserable 3 weeks, but she's finally got it. best of luck! sorry for the novel! and super cute haircut!
